Mazda 323 Protege fuel consumption

So, you're interested in the fuel consumption of my car?

The car is a 2001 model Mazda 323 Protege and is an Australian model. It's got the 1.8L inline 4 engine. The car has stock suspension and wheels and runs Pirelli Dragon (185/65 R14 86H, if you must know) tyres at 260 kPa (or 2.6 bar or 38 PSI or 1965 Torr or 77 inches of mercury…)

My measurement method is to fill the tank as far as I can (preferably using V-Power at pump 1 at Dickson Shell for consistency) and then divide the quantity of petrol by the distance I've travelled since last filling it.

Sometimes I go on long trips. These help the consumption a lot. You can tell when they have happened by the close filling dates.

The columns are as follows:

Date - the date the tank was filled.
Litres - how much fuel I put in (in litres. For you American folk, that's liters and you can multiply that by 0.2641 for gallons. For you English folk, try multiplying by 0.2199 for your gallons or multiply by 1 for the litres you should be using)
Cost - the price for the petrol in Australian dollars (convert here).
Odometer - odometer reading in kilometres at time of filling.
Δkm - change in odometer reading (so the distance travelled on the tank).
L/100km - fuel consumption in litres per 100km.
MPG (US) - mileage in US gallons
MPG (UK) - mileage in UK gallons
Type - the type of fuel. V-Power is a 98 octane premium petrol sold at Shell outlets. V-Power R is short for V-Power Racing, a 100 octane 5% ethanol blend also sold at Shell. PULP is 95 octane Premium Unleaded. E10 is a 10% ethanol blend. Unleaded is standard (for Australia) 91 octane unleaded petrol. S6000 is Mobil's Synergy 6000, a premium unleaded with 95 octane.
Station - where I bought the petrol.
Price - price of the petrol in Australian dollars per litre.

Some things I've noticed:

Consumption is lower on times when I drive longer trips. My trips are usually very short, so it is not surprising that longer trips help. The car has a chance to warm up properly and operate at its best.
Consumption is lower when I travel very long distances. This is obviously because I don't have to stop for traffic.
Hypermiling can insert itself into the fundamental orifice of a recently deceased bear. I get acceptable mileage without driving like a fuckwit. No slow driving, no pulse-and-glide-and-get-rear-ended, and air conditioning on in summer.
A manual car and fuel cut-off are your friends. Also good during the summer months is switching off the air conditioning when you take off from a stop. The big problem with air con is not when cruising but when accelerating. Just hit the off switch, get to speed, hit the on switch.
Neutral is good for downhill gliding but for the love of god, be in a gear when you go around a corner.
High revs are a good thing. Many people have the impression that high revs equals lots of fuel. It's just not true. The best indicator of fuel consumption is throttle position (unless you have a trip computer). Keep the throttle below 20%, rev the car into its peak power band, change gear. It's really very easy.
